US information technology giant International Business Machines Corp (NYSE:IBM) said it had agreed to acquire domestic business analytics firm Star Analytics Inc for an undisclosed sum.
The target, which is based in Redwood City, California, has developed software solutions that help organisations automatically integrate essential information, reporting applications and business intelligence tools across their enterprises.
Through the purchase, IBM will add business analytics capabilities that will enable it to provide organisations with faster access and real-time insight into specialised data sources, the buyer said. According to Star Analytics, the combination will allow the company to bring its solutions to a wider customer base.
The deal is pending customary closing conditions and is seen closing in the first quarter of 2013.
