Search giant Google acquires retail coupon group Incentive Targeting

US Internet giant Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has taken over retail couponing specialist Incentive Targeting Inc, the latter said on its website, without providing financial details regarding the transaction.

The target firm expects that its new owner will provide it with the resources and expertise needed to carry on with the transformation of couponing from “a way to give discounts to a way to build business”.

Mike Dudas, part of the team setting up Google’s mobile commerce operation, said in a tweet that the company had bought Incentive Targeting to power key manufacturer and private label coupon programmes.

The acquired firm, which was established in February 2007, collaborates with retail chains to deliver a targeted marketing service to grocery and consumer products makers.
