They had only played the lottery half a dozen times, but Cassey Carrington and Matt Topham are now jackpot winners. Taking a jackpot of £45,160,170.50 on Tuesdays roll over Euro Millions lottery.
The young couple, both aged 22, said they had brought the ticket because Cassey was feeling ‘lucky’ after receiving a bonus at work.
She set up an online lottery account and they have become the second major EuroMillions win in England in the last three weeks.
“I did have a feeling I was going to win,” she said.
“I have only played the lottery about half a dozen times, when I am feeling lucky, and had already won £10 twice.”
The couple had been worrying about money when both their computer and washing machine broke down at the beginning of the week.
Matt had said they couldn’t afford to replace them and pay for their upcoming wedding, when Cassey decided to check her ticket.
Even when they realised they had the winning ticket they were reluctant to start celebrating until they could confirm their win at 8am the next day.
“By this point, we had seen the prizes, we were sure we had the right numbers and we were constantly thinking we can do this or buy that,” she said.
“We didn’t get much sleep at all.”
Matt said, “We can help friends get a house, it is so difficult these days to get a deposit and mortgage so it’s great we can help them”.
“Also Dad can finally hang up his paintbrushes and relax.”
As well as paying off their parents’ mortgages, Miss Carrington and Mr Topham said they were looking forward to splashing out on their September wedding.
