Aptilo enables Wi-Fi for 500,000 3UK subscribers in London Underground

UK mobile operator 3UK is serving 500,000 subscribers with Wi-Fi in the London Underground using Wi-Fi service management solutions from Sweden-based mobile data services manager Aptilo Networks, the company said.

3UK has experienced significant month-on-month growth of the service since first deployed in 2014, with a high percentage of recurring users, helping 3UK to increase its value to subscribers and reduce churn especially among commuters.

3UK, which had no Wi-Fi capabilities prior to the launch, built its Wi-Fi service from the ground-up using the Aptilo Managed Service through an existing Wi-Fi access network deployed across the London Underground by Virgin Media.

Aptilo Networks is a leading provider of carrier-class systems to manage data services with advanced functions for authentication, policy control and charging. Aptilo Service Management Platform (SMP) has become synonymous with Wi-Fi service management and Wi-Fi offload in large-scale deployments with 100+ operators in more than 70 countries, and is a critical component of Wi-Fi calling and IoT.

3UK is a telecommunications and Internet service provider operating in the United Kingdom as a subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa. The company launched in March 2003 as the UK´s first commercial video mobile network.
