Aurora showcases advanced aircraft autonomy system

Aurora Flight Sciences has demonstrated its advanced autonomy system — Aircrew Labor In-Cockpit Automation System (ALIAS) program — on three separate aircraft, the company said.

The company said the system´s capabilities were demonstrated on a Diamond DA-42, Cessna Caravan and Bell UH-1 helicopter.

Developed under contract through the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), ALIAS utilizes a robotic system that functions as a second pilot in a two-crew aircraft, enabling reduced crew operations while ensuring that aircraft performance and mission success are maintained or improved.

Aurora Flight Sciences is an aerospace company that develops and manufactures advanced unmanned systems and aerospace vehicles.
