Lockheed Martin gets Air Force contract for missile defense early warning satellites

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) said the US Air Force awarded it a USD1.86bn fixed-price contract to complete the production of the fifth and sixth Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites, known as GEO-5 and GEO-6, for the Space Based Infrared System.

SBIRS provides continuous early warning of ballistic missile launches and other tactical intelligence.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs approximately 113,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services.
