Embry-Riddle professor to lead UAS safety institute

Waypoint Global Strategies, Inc. said it has brought on Alex Mirot, an assistant professor and program coordinator for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, to lead the Unmanned Safety Institute, a training, education, and aviation safety institute for UAS.

As director of the Unmanned Safety Institute, Mirot will develop UAS training and education course modules of the highest standards and will develop industry best practices for UAS operators ranging from individuals to public organizations and commercial operators. Mirot will also lead the development of innovative new intellectual capital consistent with Waypoint´s business strategy.

Mirot is a recognized authority in UAS training and education, and will continue to serve on the faculty at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He has worked with the Federal Aviation Administration, the NextGen test-bed, and law enforcement agencies to further the safe and responsible integration of UAS into the National Airspace System. Alex also has worked closely with UAS industry leaders to develop state-of-the-art simulation used by several universities.
