Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) subsidiary Raytheon Canada Ltd. said it has been awarded a five-year contract by Public Works and Government Services Canada for operations and maintenance of the North Warning System.
The contract also includes two options totaling an additional five years.
Raytheon Canada Ltd. is contracted to provide operations and maintenance for the NWS and to assume full care, custody and control of its components, including 47 radar sites, five logistics support sites, a monitoring and control centre and a radar depot. RCL will be maintaining the sites to ensure continuous radar surveillance over northern Canada in support of the defense of North American and Canadian sovereignty. Raytheon Canada Ltd. partnered with Canadian Base Operations, Inc., in bidding for the contract.
The North Warning System is a joint Canadian and United States radar system covering the north from Labrador to the Yukon. The NWS detects airborne threats across North America´s polar region, providing a command and control capability to the Canadian Air Defence Sector of the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
