Starwood Hotels breaks ground for eco-conscious Element

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) said that its Element brand is gaining momentum in Florida with plans for a second hotel in the Miami metropolitan area.

The new Element is expected to open in July 2015 as part of a dual-hotel development, joining Aloft Miami Doral which opened in March 2013.

Owned by Eurocon, LLC, Element Miami Doral will offer a smart, new lodging option for travelers, with 139 rooms.

Element Miami Doral will offer global travelers easy access to a variety of premier shopping destinations including the Miami Free Zone, Dolphin and International Mall and Mall of the Americas. Guests will also be close to major visitor attractions such as Miami Zoo, Miami Sea Aquarium, the word-famous South Beach, several premier golf courses, and the restaurants and nightclubs of downtown Miami.

Element is the first major hotel brand to mandate that all properties pursue the US Green Building Council´s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for high-performance buildings.
