Akron-Canton Airport marks second busiest year

Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) said a total of 1,723,956 passengers flew to and from its gates in 2013, making it the second best year in the airport´s history. More than 1.8 million customers chose the airport in 2012, the busiest year.

Rick McQueen, president and CEO, said he expects 2014 to be another top-five year. “Although we were down slightly compared to 2012,” he said, “our low fares and relaxing airport experience continue to draw travelers from throughout the region.”

Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) and its subsidiary AirTran Airways carried 872,156 passengers for the year. Delta AirLines (NYSE: DAL) carried 389,268, a ten percent increase; US Airways flew 299,600, an 11 percent increase; and United Express carried 86,869, a two percent increase.
