US travel agencies see higher air ticket sales

US-based airlines and travel seller financial settlement link ARC said that the consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold by US-based travel agencies increased 1.34% year-over-year in the first ten months of 2013 compared to the same period last year, totaling USD 74.7bn vs USD 73.7bn in 2012.

Sales for October 2013 were USD 7.3m a 4.1% increase over October 2012, ARC said.

As of October 31, ticket transactions for 2013 remained virtually flat at -0.64% with 123.2m transactions versus 124m transactions over the same period in 2012. Year-to-date passenger segments decreased 1.9% to 308m compared to 314.1m in the ten months of 2012 and 313.9m in 2011.

ARC offers travel agency accreditation services, process and financial management tools, and data analytics. In 2012, ARC settled USD 84bn worth of carrier ticket transactions for more than 9,400 travel agencies with 15,000 points of sale.
