Curaçao celebrates Facebook milestone

Blue balloons sailed over New York, Berlin, Miami, Atlanta, Shanghai, Athens, Amsterdam, Sao Paolo, London, Caracas, San Francisco and Zurich among almost two dozen cities around the world as Curaçao´s fans helped the island celebrate their 100,000th Facebook Fan the Caribbean island´s tourist board said.

As part of an international video project, friends and fans of the Caribbean island allowed Curaçao-Blue balloons to rise to the sky all around the world to mark the joyous occasion. The result was captured on video and uploaded to the Curaçao Facebook page as a big thank-you to the island´s loyal fans.

Using the whole world as a film location, the Curaçao Tourist Board produced this international video project by sending thousands of electric blue balloons imprinted with the island´s flag to friends and fans in the US, Holland, Germany, Venezuela, Brazil, China, Greece and several other countries.

This feat was organised by engaging friends and fans of the island from around the world, asking them to make a mini movie that communicated their enthusiasm for the island.

Curacao officials said the result is a collection of congratulatory clips showcasing Curaçao-branded balloons rising in the air in front of the Brandenburg Gate, the Bund of Shanghai and Miami Beach, among other global destinations.

Out of these mini clips the Tourist Board produced a collective video, which was then released in celebration of the 100,000th Fan. The CTB says this heart-felt, international and inclusive thank you represents the happiness, openness and multiculturalism Curaçao stands for.
