Air Canada "taking steps" to save an estimated 54m litres of fuel

Canada´s flag carrier Air Canada said it has released its second corporate sustainability report Citizens of the World. According to the report Air Canada is taking steps to save an estimated 54m litres of fuel during the year amongst other measures.

The document evaluates Air Canada´s performance during 2012 in the areas of safety, the environment, the well-being of employees, and the company´s community involvement.

It also contains a discussion of governance practices at Air Canada and tables of data quantifying the results of the carrier´s sustainability activities.

Highlights of the 2012 report include the completion of a biennial IATA Operational Safety Audit with a result of “no findings”, and the operation of two biofuel flights amongst steps to save an estimated 54 m litres of fuel during the year.

The carrier has launched an internal portal, HR Connex, to make human resources programmes and policies more accessible and easier to use for Air Canada´s 27,000 employees. It has also created the Air Canada Foundation to support charitable causes within communities in the form of in-kind donations and cash.
