Virgin America holds fare sale to mark 6th anniversary

California-based low-cost carrier carrier Virgin Americas said it marked its sixth anniversary with a “Celebrate our Swingin´ Sixth” network-wide fare sale for travel between August 24 and December 11, 2013.

Main cabin fares start as low as USD 49, the carrier said.

Since its launch in 2007 Virgin America has expanded to 23 new destinations and welcomed nearly 25m flyers. The airline´s Elevate frequent flyer programme has grown to nearly 3m members and has launched its largest ever Elevate promotion with more than 25 of its loyalty programme partners.

Last year, Virgin America launched a suite of enhancements to Elevate including Elevate Gold and Elevate Silver status levels that offer perks such as priority check-in, security clearance and boarding and an expanded advance purchase upgrade window for the airline´s eight-seat first class, among others.

In the second quarter, the carrier added new interline partners including China Eastern Airlines, Etihad Airways and Scandinavian Airlines. By the end of the second quarter 2013, Virgin America had 26 interline partners, up from 16 in the same in period in 2012.
