California-based chipmaker Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL) said that PRC-based mobile telecommunication firm China Mobile´s first self-branded smartphone the Android-based (NASDAQ: GOOG) M601 is powered by the Marvell Armada Mobile PXA988 unified 3G platform which integrates a processor with a cellular modem.
The Marvell PXA988 platform is designed to deliver high-performance computing with advanced graphics capabilities and robust connectivity, enabling a high-performance, cost-effective, Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) mobile device for China Mobile´s 720m subscribers.
As part of Marvell´s unified mobile 3G and LTE platform family, the Armada Mobile PXA988 is a mass market, single-chip solution that integrates a high-performance, low-power 1.2GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 application processor with cellular modems to support advanced multimedia and graphics capabilities consumers demand for their mobile devices.
The PXA988 also features: a Time Division High Speed Packet Access+ (TD-HSPA+) R8 modem; Marvell´s latest wireless connectivity technology (Wi-Fi + Bluetooth + FM radio + GPS); RF transceivers; and integrated power management and audio codec solutions.
Marvell´s unified mobile platform, including the PXA986, PXA988, PXA1088 and PXA1088 LTE, provides a pin-compatible single-chip SoC, thus enabling easy migration from dual-core to quad-core solutions and support for TD-SCDMA, WCDMA and LTE.
