Cathay Pacific freighter involved in towing incident

Hong Kong based carrier Cathay Pacific on Friday said that one of its freighter aircraft was involved in a towing incident on 3 February 2012 at 09:50 at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

The Boeing 747-400 freighter was being towed on a taxiway from HKIA’s cargo area to the maintenance bay when the tow bar was accidentally disengaged, resulting in the aircraft rolling partially onto the grass to the side of the taxiway next to the south runway before the towing crew brought it to a full stop.

Operations of the runways and taxiways at the airport were not affected and all other flights continue as normal. The aircraft was not scheduled to operate and was not carrying any freight at the time of the incident.
